TFETP was launched by the Ministry of Education (MOE) to recruit foreign English teachers and teaching assistants to create more opportunities for Taiwanese students to learn English in schools nationwide.

The Ministry of Education wants to hire 450 international English teachers in public schools by 2023 in order to offer an English-speaking environment for primary and secondary students while also improving the English teaching skills of local teachers.

Monthly Salary (Depending on teaching experience)

Holders of a bachelor’s degree: NT$ 65,230~85,380.

Holders of a master’s degree: NT$ 72,760~94,980.

Holders of a doctoral degree: NT$ 75,950~100,010.

Eligibility

Foreign English Teacher

The official or common language of the nation (as the nationality shown on the passport) where the applicant is from must be English. Identification of the official or common language of a nation is issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of China (Taiwan).

* If the applicant has dual nationality (ROC Taiwan citizen and other foreign nationality), please use the foreign nationality to apply.

The List of Nations with English as the Official or Common Language

Hold a bachelor’s degree or above from an accredited university or college. The list of the accredited universities and colleges is based on the Database for the Reference List of Foreign Universities from the Ministry of Education, Republic of China (Taiwan) website (list).

For the teaching qualification, one should meet one of the following requirements:

Hold a state-issued teaching license or certificate.

Have taught English courses in accredited foreign schools for more than one year, or have served as a full-time teaching assistant of English courses in domestic public schools that participate in MOE's program for more than one year, and have met one of the following requirements:

Hold a bachelor’s degree or above in education, English or a related field, and have studied English language teaching methods, teaching assessment, introduction to second language learning and trial teaching for more than 120 hours.

Hold a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate, TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate or CELTA (Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults) certificate approved by accredited universities.

The courses offered by the university mentioned in item b in granting the certificates shall meet the following requirements:

The course includes English language teaching methods, teaching assessment, introduction to second language learning and trial teaching.

The course lasts at least 120 hours.

Distance learning courses shall not exceed two thirds of the total course hours.

A. Hold a state-issued teaching license/certificate Valid state-issued teaching license/certificate

B. Have taught English courses in accredited foreign schools for more than one year

Or

Have served as a full-time teaching assistant of English courses in domestic public schools that participate in MOE’s program for more than one year Applicants meeting requirement B, should provide one of the documents below:

a. Bachelor’s degree certificate or above in education, English, or a related field and have taken particular teaching courses

b. TESOL/TEFL/CELTA certificate approved by accredited universities

Applicants should provide a nationwide police check/clearance issued after January 1, 2023 from relevant authorities in his or her home country or the country he or she currently resides in. One should assure the validity of the criminal record/police check during the application process. The certificate must include the name of the applicant, the date of issuance, and state that the applicant has no criminal record.

The official or common language of the nation (as the nationality shown on the passport) where the applicant is from must be English. Identification of the official or common language of a nation is issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of China (Taiwan).

Note: Applicants without prior teaching experiences in either Taiwan or other countries are highly advised (but not required) to provide education or teaching qualifications that are either certified by Republic of China (Taiwan) Embassies and Missions or verified by a recognized credential evaluation agency[1].

Applications for 2023/2024 academic year recruitment is open.

TFETP is made on a rolling basis, which means that the program will close once all of the available places have been filled. There is intense competition for admission; early applications have a greater chance of being successful and of meeting visa deadlines.
