International Women’s Day (IWD) is an annual celebration to commemorate the cultural, political, and socio-economic achievements of women. It aims to recognize the contributions and achievements of women in championing gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women and girls.
This momentous day sets to raise awareness and address the concerns on relevant issues on a gender transformative approach. Thus, the resounding contributions of women in all spheres should be integrated into all facets of human interaction.
The United Nation’s theme for the observance of 2022 International Women's Day (IWD) is, “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.” The theme recognizes the contribution of women and girls around the world, who are leading the charge on climate change adaptation, mitigation, and response, to build a more sustainable future for all. This is also aligned with the priority theme for the upcoming 66th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW66): “Achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls in the context of climate change, environmental and disaster risk reduction policies and programmes”.
To commemorate this event, the Department of Education (Philippines), through the International Cooperation Office in collaboration with United Nation Association of the Philippines (UNAP), Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) and partner agencies will be holding an online event.
It will be a discussion on women empowerment, gender equality, and the critical role and leadership of women during this pandemic across the region.
