Topic: Aligning Mathematics Teacher Preparation and Practices to the Challenges of PISA

In this webinar, Dr. Balagtas will share how the BSEd Mathematics program has been designed to respond to the needs of the K to 12 programs and to meet global standards such as those set in the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) for 15-year old learners.
The webinar specifically underscores the following areas: content demands, cognitive processes, 21st-century skills, and some contexts emphasized in PISA mathematics literacy and PISA financial literacy; some of the cognitive and social processes in PISA collaborative problem-solving skills; and some of the content domains and competencies of PISA creative thinking.
The BSEd Mathematics program has gaps with reference to the PISA frameworks. Dr. Balagtas will share recommendations on how to align mathematics teacher preparation and current practices of in-service teachers to deepen content knowledge, cognitive processes, and 21st-century skills, and how these are applied in personal, occupational, societal, and global contexts similar to how mathematics knowledge and skills are assessed in PISA.
