June 3, 2021-The Department of Education (DepEd) obtained the approval of the Commission of Elections (Comelec) to increase honorary of teachers who will serve as Electoral Board (EB) and Poll Workers in the upcoming Local Elections and National on 2022.
On February 2021, Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones asked for help in Comelec by sending a formal letter promising the Department's proposal to increase the honorary of teaching and non-teaching personnel who will serve in the election also contributed to Public health situation.
“We want to express our gratitude to the Comelec for approving our request for higher compensation for our teachers that will render their services in the next year’s election. Given the current health situation, it is rightful for them to receive additional allowance,” ani Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones.
In the response of Comelec Chairman Sheriff Abas on April 29, via Director Bartolome J. Sinocruz, Jr., the Commission fully supported the honorary change which reached P3, 000.00 increase.
Based on the latest Consumer Price Index and Inflation Rate released in January 2021, the Department has set the following honorary rates: P9, 000.00 for Chairpersons; P8, 000.00 for EB members; P7, 000.00 for at DepEd Supervisor Official (DESO); and P5, 000.00 for Support Staff.
In addition to the fee, Comelec will include the provision of transportation, food and water allowance, and cleaning and repair / maintenance costs as part of the budget for the election 2022.
“While DepEd and COMELEC have both agreed on the proposal, the proposed increase will still need the approval of Congress when they deliberate the annual budget” ani Pangalawang Kalihim Pascua.
